Part Two of Ren’s local Festive Foodie Finds in St Albans. Enjoy!
1. Christmas Hampers from St Albans Delivered
Many of us love the idea of giving hampers as gifts at Christmas, and this year there is an extra-special alternative being offered by new company, St Albans Delivered. Their hampers start from £29.00 for The Sopwell and go up to £109.00 for The Verulam hamper. The hampers vary in content (see the website for more details) and are made up of local produce from partners including Heaven in a Cupcake, The Pudding Stop, Soko Coffee, Tring Brewery and Hazel End Vinyard.
The last order date for hampers stocked with local produce is 14th December 2012.
Visit http://www.stalbansdelivered.co.uk/ for more information.
2. A local food and drink experience
A little bit of sleuthing tells me that there are plenty of gift vouchers that you can buy with a local foodie angle, that have the double bonus of supporting local businesses.
For a truly artisanal gift, pick up a quaint baking set (including a loaf tin, organic stone milled flour, yeast and recipe cards) from Redbournbury Watermill and Bakery available at the St Albans Farmers’ Market and at the mill.
If you pop into the mill you can also buy gift vouchers. For a very special foodie treat, you can join with (or buy as a gift) a half day or full day bread making experience, where you’ll bake alongside Master Baker Steven and learn about different baking techniques with the wheat flour produced by the millstones.
Check the mill’s website for more information on the baking experience and bakery opening times. http://www.redbournburymill.co.uk/The-Bakery/Baking-Experiences
If you know someone who would enjoy a meal out, I’d recommend vouchers from Lussmanns or Darcy’s. Lussmanns offer £10 gift vouchers, valid for up to six months at either their St Albans or Hertford restaurants. Darcy’s also offer gift vouchers and you can also pick up jars of their Darcy’s house made chutneys and jams to give as Christmas gifts.
Or, for a pre-Christmas treat or early New Year treat, gather a group of friends together and book in for a cocktail masterclass at Mokoko’s for £35 per person, which includes two cocktails, a competition group cocktail and a platter of food.
Did you know that Hertfordshire has its own Wine School? David at Hertfordshire Wine School has a fantastic selection of wine tastings and wine courses – the perfect Christmas gift for anyone who likes wine or would like to know a bit more about choosing the best bottles and grapes.
Prices start from £22.50 for an evening’s ‘Introduction to Wine’ tasting, all the way up their 8-week Introductory World of Wine Courses for £95. ALternatively, you can buy an open voucher for £25, £45, £80 or £95 which will allow the recipient to choose the wine experience of their choice.
A VERY big thank you to the wonderful Ren and her wonderful Festive Foodie gift suggestions!
